February 14, 2003, Newsletter Issue #1: Battling Writer`s Block

Tip of the Week

Everyone experiences a block now and then. Fortunately, there are solutions. When you find yourself unable to create, try and figure out where the block is coming from. Stress? Relationship issues? General restlessness? If you’re just feeling run down, take some time to get your mind and body back into working order. Pounding the keyboard when you’re knackered is a losing battle. If it’s something more, like a creative standstill, there are exercises you can do to get your juices flowing again. Take breaks. Give yourself periods of rest so you can regroup. Read some short stories to break up your routine, or consult a book on how to free up your creativity.

Be careful not to blame the muse because your writing has hit a standstill. The words will come. Just give it time, and don`t give up.
